<VV> Motor oil shear strenght comparisons - a good article

I'm assuming that's 25K and not 25 1/2. I would never run any oil that long in anything I cared about. Some manufacturers are more worried about advertizing low maintenance costs than with how long their cars last. They are in the business of selling new vehicles not replacement engines for the most part.
I know a girl that bought a new Honda almost 20 years ago. Honda recommended 15K oil changes. I told her that was nuts but she didn't listen because Honda knew better than silly me. That car was smoking pretty badly by the time she sold it and I'm pretty sure it had less than 100k on it.
My wife's CTS came with Mobil1 in it from the factory and the oil life meter usually reads about 50% when I change it between 3 & 4K. I run their 0-30 in it.

I am driving a modern VW Van "Bus" and I have a recommended oil change interval of 25.584 miles or every 2 years - the oil VW is using on the change is Shell Helix. But I would never have an interval that long on an air cooled engine.
