Noise.

Those snorkels are often referred to by GM as "silencers".  Turning the 
cover over is almost an urban myth, and I believe anyone wondering about 
it can google and get more hits than one wants on the subject, but, it 
does flow more air.  However, one also needs to add the extensions to 
the top of the stock carbs as discussed in the Tech Guide, isn't it?
