Chuck, 
I believe that the points cam follower starts to wear as soon as you start  
the engine. So that wear will change the timing as it occurs. Thus, from 
mile  one, you are in jeopardy of a performance degredation. How much of a 
timing  change and thus a performance loss, do you want to tolerate? Same for 
points  burning, oxyidizing, etc.
