 Nyet. The plug in the side cover  is both the fill port and the level check port. The oil should be up to the bottom of the hole with the car level .

Just drained & replaced front shifter seal in my '63 4 speed tranny.  
I'm preparing to refill it but before I do I'd like to know if the small 
hex head bolt just to the right of the large hex fill screw supposed to 
be the fill check?
