<VV> Corvair mentioned in New Yorker article

Many of us old Corvair fans have seen the Chevy promotional movie "Daring  
the Darien". (Now available on Youtube)  It tells the story of a grueling  
trek by three 1961 Corvairs through the Panamanian/Columbian jungle,  
demonstrating the ruggedness of the Corvair's design. If you ever wondered what  
has happened to that stretch of "almost" impenetrable jungle since then, the  
April 22, 2013 issue of the New Yorker magazine has an article about the 
region.  The article does mention the three red Corvairs, and their success in  
making it through to Columbia. The author, Jennie Erin Smith, has obviously 
seen  the Chevy film, since she quotes the narrator calling the Darien Gap 
"the  world's worst roadblock on the world's greatest highway". Like most 
New Yorker  articles, it goes on for pages and pages, telling you all you need 
to know  - then continues on some more. I am not recommending that you read 
it, although  it presents a sound history both before and after the 
Corvairs. It does conclude  that someday, despite the wishes of many of the local 
inhabitants, a road may go  through the Darien. - Seth  Emerson
