<VV> Turbo fuel consumption ...

Poor fuel mileage is not hard to do with a turbo -- I managed to get 8
mpg in an Econo-Run here in the NW many years ago with a 66 turbo (ran
fine, nice and rich, good ignition) -- was beaten for worst mileage by a
guy with a BB in a Chevy wagon full of children -- think he managed 6.

And, I've had Corvairs that didn't do that well -- a stockish 140 with a
Holley 3-barrel center mount -- like a Hummer, it wouldn't drive past a
gas station.

Remember, once upon a time, fuel was rather less expensive than it is
now, and its price was certainly not a determining factor in which cars
we chose to drive.
