Perhaps that is a factor … However, it is probably more related to a human tendency to feel history starts with their birth.  For their first  years, before they have any real idea about what is happening in the country, life consists of sleeping, eating, and playing so everything seems really wonderful.  That illusion is lost over time and realization sets in.  But the memories remain and spawn dreams of 'Those were the days.'
