Thanks for the description of how it goes together.  I'm about to put ours back on, but it seems those clips can dig away the paint and cause rust.  Is there a better fastener to use?

A small lip on the barrel clip prevents it from going through the lid.  The emblem is then inserted from the top into the barrel clip where the tangs grab the posts.
