 Yet we have a LOT of Corvair people here wanting something substantially better. And people are working on it. So, it would seem they don't work all that well.

A lot of Corvair racers are using Corvair fans and winning races. They may
have cut them down or slowed them up, but they are working!  Are they
inefficient? Yes. Do they work? Yes.

 Also, we know the Corvair fan is horribly inefficient, and for high perf
apps, it just isn't enough. Ask a turbo owner or anyone who really races
these things, and they'll all tell you, the stocker just isn't up to the
job. 

Hence my reason for suggesting something proven from another application.
