<VV> carbon removal

Mike, I've used the wire wheel on my bench grinder for the valves but
since the heads are aluminum I took mine to a guy with a bead blaster
and let him spray them clean. He also got most of the crud out of the
exhaust ports.

What is a good method of removing soft carbon from the heads and valves. It is
not thick, but I'd like to get most of it off before reassembling the heads. I
only plan to do a quick lapping of the valves.
