<VV> Removing Carbon

What is a good method of removing soft carbon from the heads and valves. It
is not thick, but I'd like to get most of it off before reassembling the
heads. I only plan to do a quick lapping of the valves.

Smitty Says;  Matt is right.  The dollar store spray can oven cleaner works
pretty well.  Look for East Off on the West coast or just plain Oven cleaner
on the East coast.
