Haha! But an even wider group of people would consider Corvairs themselves sacrilegious!

Just as long as no Chinese parts are used in these modifications, my sensitivities aren't perturbed....

Agreed! I now have enough first-hand experience with running an electric fan 
to admit that it is not an inexpensive solution. You will still need to 
develop a high-amp controller with several speeds for different levels of 
engine use. Any diversion from the stock setup is still going to cost you 
hundreds of dollars to implement.

As I mentioned the other day, a mechanical drive with a 90 degree gearbox, 
mounted within the existing top cover casting could offer a much more 
reliable drive for racing or high speed use. Here's a clearer view:

If anyone wants to experiment along this line, please feel free. Remember, 
I'm fairly capable when it comes to composites, but not machining.
