Subject: <VV> Front strut rod bushings

I need to replace the strut rod bushings on my EM front end. The nuts
are TIGHT!! We had her up on a hoist today, hosed it with penetrant,
put a bigass wrench with cheater bar on it... and saw the actual rod
start to twist.... we quit.

Smitty Says; Jon when you were tightening you were not compressing rubber
but rather you were pinching the tubular sleeve around the shaft and inside
the rubber bushings. That can be very tight, and still, if the rubber is
shrunk, it can rattle around. The only way to check condition is
disassembly.
If you do, be sure to write down the distance from the end of the rod to the
nut, so you can put your caster back the same as it was.
