<VV> Generator To Alternator Conversion Question

I purchased a 75 Chevy Nova alternator to replace my generator with on my Rampside. I have an old Corvair alternator to get the front drive housing and bracket from. Per the Tech article I've removed the fan & housing. I carefully removed the same from the new one. My question is when I went to put the Corvair front housing on the Nova alternator I end up with about an eighth inch of play between the rotor and the end frame. I don't remember this being the case before. I notice the sleeves/bushings between the two alternators are different (no surprise really). I tried putting the Corvair sleeves in but that combination seems to bind the rotor and housing as the housings, are tightened together. If I leave the eighth in play there and tighten the fan & pulley will this draw the rotor into place & be OK or do I need to buy a sleeve to remove the play before the fan & pulley are installed? I know a need proper clearance between the fan & housing as
 well. Thanks in advance.
