<VV> 64 coupe runs down the battery...

Start by disconnecting the ground cable, and inserting a small 12v bulb in series with the cable and the battery terminal. It shouldn't light, if it does, something's still on. If it doesn't....

If you have a milliammeter (and most digital meters have this function), disconnect the ground cable and put the meter in series with the battery and the ground cable. If it's pulling more than about 10-20 mA, something's still on.

There are a lot of things that could cause the battery to run down.
However, the generator isn't one of them. You will need to isolate parts of
the electrical system to find the problem. First thing is to disconnect the
battery ground cable and see if it still runs down. If so, the problem is
the battery itself. If the battery holds a charge while disconnected, then
you need to start probing the car itself.

Hi all, my 64 coupe runs down the battery just sitting there with key
switch off. I changed the voltage regulator but it still does it. I am
told by my local mechanic that I need my generator rebuilt. Is that the
case? -- IV
