<VV> Electrical problem

I have a slight electrical problem.  I just finished installing a Spyder dash in my '60.  The only mods to the '60 wiring harness were to
hook up 4 more dash lights to match the Spyder dash, and to add  the temp gauge and tach to the circuit that has the gas gauge,
gen/fan, and temp/press light just like in the '64 shop manual.  I've also just installed the '64' 110 back into the car but haven't started
it yet.
Now for the problem:  when I connect the neg battery cable to the post to complete the hook-up, the gen/fan and temp/press lights glow
faintly.  This is with the key in the off position.  Also, when I hook up the cable I hear what sounds like a "click" coming from inside the
distributor.  It has a Pertronix Ignitior I in it.  Then, when I turn the key to the "run" position, the temp/press and gen/fan lights glow  like
they are supposed to.  After adding the gear lube to tranny and diff, and finishing attaching the exhaust, i'm going to fire it up.
So, what's up with this?  Thoughts and opinions welcome.  Thanks.
