<VV> turned the key and it doesn't crank at all

Sart looking at connectors in the engine bay , the 2 pin (purple and yellow 
 wires) goes to starter..and the main connector is famous for pulling all 
kinds  of tricks. Just unplugging it and plugging it back may do it. If it 
does , clean  the terminals up and a SMALL amount of no ox or silicone will 
help. If it is a  powerglide , check neutral switch , and connectors under 
dash by radio  speaker.Also mess with neutral switch connector on PG shifter. 
May also just be  hung up brushes on starter. You may be able to tap on the 
end (tap , not  beat!).
 I take it that this is a "run when parked" car?

I put a  battery in, turned the key and it doesn't crank at all.
Generator/Fan light  comes on but nothing else. --  IV
