<VV> Roller tip rockers...I know it's been covered before

Mark...and all,
Thanks for the replies and info so far. This helps me better make an informed decision. I will inspect my current stock rockers and see how they look. I was trying to get away with as little $$$ out the door as possible. (of course right???) But I was also figuring, since I am so far onto a rebuild, I don't want to leave anything to chamce. Especially if I need to replace rocker arm assy's anyway.

That being said...it's kind of a wash between Clark's mated stock replacement stamped steel, fluted ball set, and the Comp Cams 1431 roller tips, price wise. The Comps being 1:6 ratio to the standard 1:58. My question is: will the roller tips fit under stock valve covers?

</div>Bob, no special setup needed. It took the longer repro rocker studs c9295 but they are designed with the matching and original 1.58 ratio and the correct 6.4 and 4.2 degree rocker angles. They were a perfect fit. I did have to go with a deeper valve cover but was planning on the Clarks covers anyway.
The only snafu was my set arrived with 8 intakes and 4 exhaust, I sent them a picture and they sent the correct parts the next day priority with a prepaid return label for the wrong parts to go back.
They have 7k miles on them now set at 1/6 turn lash adjustment with no lifter clatter and a as smooth a running engine as you can get with a 270 cam.
I tried 1/4 turn and 1/2 turn but noticed that bogged down the engine with unnecessary stress. It smoothed out and ran much better at 1/6 turn in from zero lash.

Mike, if your rocker arms and balls have been thru a run and or scored you
need to replace them anyway. While my set only had 63k miles on them, they
were scored. Also, the rocker to valve face surface was corroded and worn at
an angle that would require polishing out. It wasn't that much more for the
roller rockers and valve covers. Also the original arms are known to stress
crack in the corners for the stud hole.
I installed the Clarks roller rockers and pushrods to match with their deep
valve covers and got a smoother running engine using less horsepower to turn
over the engine. There is a lot of friction in those ball to rocker sockets.
I had to readjust idle down and reset mixture.
But just know that a properly set up std rocker system in good condition
will provide years of reliable operation.
Also, not sure why you are comparing a valve job to roller rockers. You need
a good valve job for either rocker setup you choose.
