<VV> Japanese Corvairre

The Japanese tag may have been useful to differentiate between a much more expensive car imported for sale in the Japanese market from own brought in by a military or DOD individual that paid no customs.

</div>I never said it wasn't purchased (new or used) in Japan, only that lots of
GIs took their cars over there. As to why it would have a Japanese tag
affixed with common Phillips head screws next to the body tag, I suspect
that you would have to register any vehicle imported to Japan, and it would
be easier to add a tag that would be easy for the congratulatory to read,
than to have an interpreter ride shotgun (????). Who knows, it could be an
ID tag from a Jap Zero that someone stamped the numbers in and put it on as
a conversation piece. Just offering up ideas, not looking for an arguement.
