I hope the solution is in changing the gear oil
as that is easier than removing the turbo engine even though there is no
drain plug on the 64-65 transmissions.

Smitty Says; Dennis I have two sticks and an automatic in my set of
Corvairs. (All 64s) THe auto has a drain plug in the diff and the sticks
have a drain in both the trannies and the diffs. All I have done is drill a
# 7 hole at a low point location and tap the hole for a 1/4 inch pan head
screw. Put an O-ring on the screw and plug er up. I did all of mine with
oil in the units. The grease doesn't try to run out till you finally
penetrate to the inside, and then very slowly. Don't fool around but get
your tap in the hole and that will slow it even more. All the time you are
drilling and tapping the chips will be getting flushed out. Use a drip pan
of course. I doubt you will lose a half pint of grease during the whole
process. Does it drain slowly. Heck yes. But far better than trying to
stuff a suck hose all the way to the bottom of a transmission, which
everyone knows is impossible.
