Bill, I am not picking on you , I ask this question every time I hear or
read the phrase "turned the drums".

Why did you turn the brake drums? They can only be turned until the
minimum diameter is reached, then they are no good. Back in the 60s
every shop seemed to turn drums with every brake shoe replacement. Even
undamaged and new drums! They sold a lot of needlessly replaced brake
drums... I have not turned a drum in 20 years.

Have you checked skiblack's web site?

This is our own club member Bryan Blackwell's site. He also keeps the
server that is running these messages.

Remember, you need a four wheel alignment. If you have not done it yet,
soak and loosen the rear camber bolts so he can move them. Better to
break them at home than when the car is on the rack and you have to
order parts. Also replace those rear strut rod bushings. Powerglides
usually weaken the inner bushings with fluid, so holding rear camber in
spec is difficult. Most use nylon or other non-rubber on the Powerglide
inner bushings. Do use rubber on the outer bushings, the bar has to
twist some in use, unless you are only racing.

I replaced everything new - upper & lower ball joints, upper and lower A-arm bushings, upper A-arm bumpers, shocks & bolts, camber adjusting bolts, control rods and bushings & nuts, all stabilizer bar bushings & bolts, Clark's/Flaming River quick steering box, nylon pitman arm bushing, inner & outer tie rod ends and adjusting sleeves & clamps, idler arm, inner & outer wheel bearings, brake shoes, brake hoses, rebuilt the wheel cylinders, turned the brake drums, repacked/re-greased everything, sand blasted and painted all the metal parts, used the original springs but cut one coil.
