A couple of observations:


1.  The early Corvairs (at least 1960-'63 models) DID have independent rear suspension (IRS).  Yes, the swing-axles were perhaps not as sophisticated and fool-proof as the set-up on the late model Corvairs but they did constitute an independent rear suspension.  Arguably, the transverse leaf spring on the '64s rendered them technically not independent rear suspension.


2.  I believe the modified, customized early hardtop with the late model multi-link rear suspension was based upon a '63 model, not a '64.
