Correction:
Just found an old cam. Your pic looks correct. The "posts and cancelling spring" are on the column where the roller on your installed mechanism would roll against to get the centering action.  It is difficult to get everything installed correctly.  It may be you either don't have that "centering spring" or had installed the mechanism with the black roller on the wrong side of said spring.  Also, I had to try several different washers and lock washers below/ above the special mounting screw to get my mechanism to feel solid yet move very  easily.
