I just wanted to say thanx to all who replied about my idle and stumbling problems.  They have been SOLVED!  The poor idle was nothing more than a piece of dirt in the idle siphon tube.  When I was looking into the carb throats yet again to check the accel pump streams (which were both great), it was late and I needed to use a flashlight.  Drivers carb great again, BUT the pass carb had gas dripping from the cluster.  Removed it and found a piece of dirt plugging the end of the idle siphon tube.  Before, when I ran a wire into it to clean it out, all I did was move the dirt around and not really remove it completely. Now the car idles fair.  I think I have a piece of bent linkage as I have to push down on the throttle shaft to get it to idle slowly.
As for the stumbling, a friend said a coil could cause that.  So, since I had an extra coil and it only took a minute to change it.......  SUCCESS!  When I took it out afterwards, the car ran like a raped ape!  What a difference!
As for the demon possessed car, besides the electrical problem of the bat cable end touching the run terminal of the starter, the coil trouble, dirt in the carb problem, now the tach has puked. (I installed a Spyder dash)  It won't register above 2,000 rpms anymore.  Then a friend at a cruise-in on Sunday eve told me my back-up lights came on when I shifted into 1st.  Then the starter started to go 'click' when I hit the key the first time.  It eventually starts in the next 1 - 7 tries.  (Starter solenoid, maybe?)
and the wipers, which wouldn't "park", finally did and pulled the blades 6 inches below the edge of the windshield onto the cowl cover. (I was able to pry the arms off of the hubs.  Phew!
