DragFree cross shafts are being sold by VairFare, LLC.

Replacing your carburetor cross shaft is probably well past due. After decades of wear and corrosion cross shafts tend to hang-up on the support brackets making it difficult to achieve carburetor synchronization and smooth low RPM idle. Corvair owners often resort to a stronger accelerator tensioning spring, but this can cause additional friction, deflection of the cross shaft and a stiffer gas pedal. The problems are compounded by bends and contortions to the actuator levers and the shaft itself.

Dragfree cross shafts look like an original stock unit and are the best on the market. DragFree Cross shafts are outfitted with high chromium ball bearings installed on the carburetor mounting brackets. These are real bearings (not bushings) so the cross shaft can rotate freely with a minimum of surface contact area. The hardened steel bearing mounts, only 5/16" thick, are custom fit to the cross shaft brackets and very inconspicuous.

DragFree cross shafts are made from stock shafts that are cleaned, stripped to bare metal, straightened as required, and recoated with heat-cured, temperature and scratch resistant paints with a pleasant, flat metallic finish. The accompanying images show the brackets with mounts and bearings as well as example DragFree cross shafts.

DragFree cross shafts are available for all engine types. A few are available with knurling on the shaft for AC.
