YES to all of Harry's points.  Especially pushing the front of the TC toward the front of the car.  Every PG drive train I've removed had just enough rust to bind the torque converter nub in the crank recess.  Clean and lube the nub and recess with a LITTLE swipe of grease when reassembling.

Absolutely unbolt the torque converter. Pulling the engine with the TC
connected to the flexplate may damage the splines and create one unholy mess
of ATF.
When you unbolt the three flexplate bolts push the torque converter forward
(towards the transaxle}. It should move maybe 1/8". This will show you the
TQ nub isn't stuck in the crankshaft.
