<VV> Gen keeps running without Fan Belt?

If you have a new belt in your hand, ready to install it, you could hold-on 
 tight, loop the end and yank it onto the pulley. That should stop it. 
Anybody  ever try this? "Currently" no generators in my family, just 
alternators. -  Seth

By the way:

Do NOT allow a generator to continue  motorizing like that.  Yank a 
battery terminal, or try smacking the  regulator to jar the contacts 
and maybe break the circuit enough to stop  the generator.  If it 
motorizes for very long at all it's going to  overheat quickly and 
possibly damage the engine bay  wiring.
