The 1st Corvairs arrived in dealer showrooms on this date in 1959. Back in
2010, and on the back end of Corvair's 50th Anniversary Celebration (I
loved Dave Newell's historical Communique' articles leading up to the
date), a few of us worked to establish October 2nd as CORVAIR HERITAGE DAY,
a day to simply enjoy, celebrate, and raise awareness of the Corvair.
Efforts included all-inclusive local chapter activities open to any Corvair
enthusiast regardless of chapter membership, and included dash plaques,
t-shirts, etc. A few key goals targeted increased chapter engagement at
the local level and to support CORSA's ever-present fundraising
challenges. While Year One provided a reasonable launch, unfortunately,
the event failed to gain much traction in following years, and the concept
seems to have pretty much faded away. My own personal situation didn't
help much as a career change and cross-country relocation at that time
rapidly altered my priorities away from event organization, so I feel in
many ways responsible for that. Anyway, I still have that Year One logo,
so updated it and made a few laminated lanyards that I'll be passing out to
any Corvair enthusiast that finds me at the local Sonic burger tonight
after work. Nothing fancy, just a fun excuse to take a drive (Hopefully my
attachment makes it through).

Soooo, what are YOU doing with YOUR Corvair today? Go out and have fun!
Happy CORVAIR HERITAGE DAY!
