Mark,

He topped off the Oil Filled the Tank with Premium Fuel and took it for a long fun run in the Sunday Morning cool September air. Now it runs great and no noises. He has been Driving his MGA 1600 a lot more than his Corvair this summer.

Rick, what type of oil is being used? When the mechanic went in and readjusted, had the nuts backed off? And, if its been good all summer and is doing it again, how many are rattling? My car did this and I had three flat getting flatter cam lobes.
If all is good in the cam/lifter department, I might think the rocker arm studs may have worn threads so the nuts cannot lock as well as they should. To know if this is the problem, you would have to verify the cam and or lifters aren't going bad, because wear in the system will show itself in the same fashion as a loosening rocker nut, tapping lifters. .

A friend has good running `67 Monza Convertible 110hp 4 speed. The engine was built 7 or 8 years a go by a noted and a very experienced Corvair person who had a shop Corvair for a long time. He has had the car for six years, and has spent a lot of money on it, and it has rather low miles. In the past year or so the valves will get out of adjustment and make noise at idle. Last winter he put "new correct self locking nuts" on all the rocker arms and had a noted Corvair Person re-adjust the Valves. Quiet for most of the summer, but now the valves are making noise again. Any Ideas of a cause or cure ?
