Gary---I heard that story that they were used for filler in the floor in
Plant 4 (VEGA) line at Chevy Tonawanda. My brother says that before they
started tearing the building down, they scanned the floor in there and it's
just re-bar. No "Engines used for filler".

Crate engine:

This would have been a GM "service" replacement available to dealers for
either warranty work, or purchase by customer.

What is it worth?
To me, likely less than a current rebuild. Depending on which motor it is.

GM scrapped a lot of these when the Corvair got old enough where they were
not "required" to stock them.

Legend has it that many were dumped into a pit as filler and concrete poured
over them to clear space. A floor was needed for a new engine line, and many
old service motors were used as filler.

A unique piece of history, but old. Dried out gaskets, might be seized, how
good would it be after all these years without a freshening up.

But then again, there are likely those out there who would pay stupid money
for it just to have it.
