<VV> Mig/tig welding floor panels.

I'm getting ready to weld new panels into my 62 Spyder.  It's been a while since I've welded. I've heard several versions of Weldon them in. One is just tacking tacking them in with an over lap of 1\4 to 3/8 of a inch and two, tack then in and then completely make the weld all the way around the panel.  Any suggestions?
