Thanks top Hank for reminding everyone of the CORVAIR BASICS BOOK. It does
contain a lot of information.
But it seems appropriate to summarize the key points here....

PG

When flat towing FORWARD, rear pump lubricates tranny but oil doesn't get
cooled. So miles between running engine are limited to 50 so that oil
doesn't overheat. Fewer miles between running engine is suggested in the heat of
summer.

In addition, periodic changing of the PG lube IS NOW RECOMMENDED every
12,000 miles. !!!!

When flat towing BACKWARD,.rear pump doesn't circulate lube. Very limited
miles suggested this way.

MT

When flat towing in neutral, engine off, the counter gear doesn't rotate so
there is a very limited splashing of lube internally. Means distance
should be limited to about 50 miles between running engine to get lube
circulated. Don't tow in gear.

When flat towing forward in neutral, diff will still lube trans input and
output shafts.
When flat towing BACKWARD, diff will NOT provide sufficient lube to trans
input and output shafts so limit distance to about 50 miles. PERIOD.

Trey---have to agree with Matt---Our PG's are pretty damn indestructible.
flat towing one isn't really an issue. It's the Manual's that you have
to
start every 100 mi. or so and run through the gears so the gear oil gets
redistributed between the transmission and the diff. remember there's a
hole in each where the two assemblies share the gear oil. PG's got 2
pumps
not one. I believe the Corvair Basics Manual covers this pretty well.
Still a lot of guys on here that worked very hard to put that together
back
in 1999-2000. Book is still valid!
