<VV> Exhaust gas + Diff seal

Again, I'm not a pro on EMs, but I think a '64 would be similar to a '65 (which I have). The plug should be under the car on the left side (and should be easy to fill from there). The dipstick is on the right side of the engine compartment with a sign (if still there) above for "check axle oil" or some such. While it "could" be filled from there, it would take quite a while.

90WT typically comes in quart plastic bottles with a nipple at the top. There might be a better way, but I've used a gas hose (or other) to attach to the nipple, hold the bottle upside down above the level of the fill hole and squeeze the bottle (gently so as not to blow the hose off) until I see fluid coming out of the fill hole. Stop, put the plug in, set the car back on the ground.

It is an early 1964 Monza Coupe automatic "Lisa" and she does have the diff dipstick on the left side. I have to daily drive her until my crashed car is fixed probably another week. I've ordered the seals from Clark's but it is going to take awhile. The dipstick is somewhat crimped at the top, looks tough to fill that way. Can I keep the differential filled somehow for the next week until the seals get here? -- IV

I'm not a pro on EMs and you never told us (that I saw) what year this car is, but the tranny and diff will NOT share 90wt. The PG (Power Gluide) will take ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) and the diff will take 90WT.

There should be a plug on the left side of the diff to check/fill level. Some EMs have a dipstick in the engine compartment for checking the level. I'm not sure which year has what, but some years (maybe all EMs?) have both.

Based on the questions that you are asking, I feel like you should either sell this car or find some local help SOON!

The auto parts store will likely call it 80/90, 70/90, or 90/100. Any of those are fine.

Is this car manual or automatic tranny? The manual shares 90wt with the tranny, but the PG does not. There is more than one way to check fluid level depending on which transmission.

Do I have to refill it with 90W when I change the seals? Do auto parts stores commonly have 90 wt oil? How much do I put in? -- IV

And the STRONG ORDER you smell in the heater just might be the 90wt oil from the diff. It has a VERY distinctive odor - even when new (fresh).

See my other post. The pan was leaking from the bolts working loose but see
the other thingie leaking as well. Clarks I guess for the lower shrounds,
thermostats and linkage. I have other issues to attend to first but to
remove flashing from the cylinder fins do you have to take all the oil
              pipes off? -- IV

Yes, your lower shrouds, thermostats and linkage appear to be gone. But
before you take that all apart, look for oil leaks down onto the exhaust.
That really smells bad. Most people cannot smell carbon monoxide.
