50 cents on a dollar
In some instances, you may not get that.

I hear all the time of people picking up a car to "fix up" to resell at a profit. Even have some call me looking for leads..........

Depends on what you put into it......

If you do your own body and paint, you have a fighting chance.

If you are paying someone else to do that is another matter.

What about interior work, missing parts, motor rebuild, suspension, brakes. It adds up pretty quickly.

If you want to say "I restored this" now you have some pride. But more people than I care to think about have poured money into the pit, and never came close to recovering what they have into it.

Also, are you doing a quick restore and flip?
Or are you talking a car you put 8 grand in over the course of 10 years, and drove it to shows and cruises regularly and got 10 years of enjoyment out of it as well? And now showing signs of wear, you cannot get your 8 grand back out of it?

A friend of mine restored a 68 Roadrunner several years ago. At the time I advised against it. It was rusty, in pieces, and needed everything. He did put at least 20 grand into the car, but it came out fantastic. and he painted it Black instead of the original color(green), because he built it himself, for himself, and wasn't worried about numbers matching. then there was this one guy, who kept coming back, with more and more cash............he got 35 grand for it, and started on another........

Sometimes it happens, but more often than not......NO
