FWIW the same thing can and does happen to other engines with aluminum heads.  When I was in the army the guys in the motor pool would frequently ruin a  head on one of the Onan air cooled generators by over tightening a plug.  Same for European cars.  In my experience you only need one mechanic who isn't used to torqueing a plug in an aluminum head--because he never did in an iron head either--to weaken the threads.  Properly repaired--and even the KD inserts have worked well for me--and properly torqued in the future and you shouldn't have any more problems.

  Arriving home in the garage, lightrevealed that the number one spark plug had departed it's hole and wound up inthe battery tray.  A helicoil later and the plug was reinstalled and thesparkplug wire which had been caught up in the fan belt, replaced.
