<VV> Repairng Stripped threads in YH carbs

I have, out of necessity, developed a quick and easy repair for infamous stripped threads in YH carb bodies where the throttle body mounts. If interested, read on.

I was not able to find repair kits for the rare 12-32 threads, so I moved up to 1/4-20 (x 1") screws once I found the correct design fillister heads from McMaster-Carr (minimum order of 10, BTW). Drill the carb holes with a 13/64" bit and tap them to 1/4-20. Drill the throttle body holes and gasket holes larger to 15/64" so the screws will fit through them without interference. Use 1/4" lock washers and install as normal.

If you are unlucky enough to have the bowl cover screws strip, They can usually be recovered by using a screw from a Rochester. The YH screw is 10-32 x 5/8" and the HV screw is 10-32 x 3/4". Washers are #10's. If that doesn't do it, try the longer screw without a washer (there's an old joke there, but I'll pass on it). If neither works, these can usually be drilled (#21 bit) and tapped at the normal size for a longer screw.

If the choke housing mounting screw holes are stripped they can often simply be recovered with a longer 8-32 screw. You can test this by borrowing one of the screws that hold the choke housing to the body. This works because the original screws don't use all the threads and there are usually a couple of good ones left. If that fails, drill and tap for 10-32 screws (like for the bowl cover). Be careful not to drill into the body if repairing the lower hole.

Hope this helps someone.
