>    Scores of owners of classic Chevy Corvair and  other fun-to-drive cars are gearing up for Poppy Run, the famed drive up twisting canyon roads and across desert straights to Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.  It can be driven leisurely or aggressively, and is not competitive. On Sunday morning, April 3, families will gather in Granada Hills for the 100 mile run on less traveled historic two-lane routes.       The 9:00 am meeting offers light refreshments and distribution of colorful tee shirts before the route is detailed. Several breaks enroute will enable the group to experience the natural beauty of Southern California topography.  At noon a sit down luncheon and special program is held at General William J. Fox Airfield.      A moderate bloom of poppies is expected, according to  reserve officials.  It is too early, they say, to determine bloom peak time.  A handful were reported in early March, and other small wildflowers  such as Filaree, slender keel fruit, goldfields, mustard, and fiddleneck can be seen.      Corsa West of Los Angeles, a pioneer club for owners of the 1960-1969 Corvair,  is now sponsoring the event.  Jack Pinard  produced ten drives with another car club before it was dropped in 2008.  He was persuaded by the active Van Nuys club of 80 members to lead their team of enthusiasts.      Poppy Run is open to all classic and specialty cars. Club membership is not required.  Advance registration by mail is $25.00 person. including t-shirt and luncheon. and closes March 15.  Late entry is $30.00.  A form is available at corsawest.org or by contacting corvairjack at yahoo.com, 805-340-6533.      Early entrants include members of nearby chapter South Coast Corsa. A large group from Ventura County Corvette Club will participate as well as several Chevy HHR enthusiasts. A Corvair powered motorcycle is expected.      Details of the luncheon program have firmed up but traditionally are not announced in advance. Jack promises it will be both educational and entertaining.      CWLA president and team leaders will  discuss details at a board meeting March 3, and volunteers finalized at the March 17 general meeting.  Assistance is needed for registration, hospitality, route and luncheon.      Poppy Run has been widely promoted on social media.  It is expected to be broadly reported, including on dailydriverproject.com, which recently covered Greater LA Corvair events. .   Poppy Run news release 02262016   John W.
