The float has most likely sunk.  A fairly common occurrence in a fifty year
old car.  Go to your friendly Ford dealer and get a Mustang float.  Fits
exactly.

The gas gage reads nearly empty even with a full tank.  Would like a bit of
information to troubleshoot the system to see if the gage is broken or is
there another problem.
