Only time I had a vapor lock was only a year ago on mothers day. It was HOT
out , drove @65 miles at speed , shut it down at a Restaurant , came back
out and started right up , pulled out into fast moving traffic , got about
1 mile before it quit. I finally got it going again by choking it. The fuel
pump was so hot you could not put your palm on top without burning it.
I have since added a 4 inch fan by the motor mount aimed at the pump. I
doubt it is a big help , but no more trouble. I did check pushrod length when
I worked on it the next day , but checked ok. I have found a short pushrod
years ago that apparently caused strange hot run issues on a friends
corvair.
I feel we are more vulnerable to vaporlock and other problems because of
the "new improved? gas"
I have made a "test" fuel line that replaces the left carb feed with a line
made up with a T and a small fuel gauge . I usually use it on my new
rebuilt motors along with adapta bolt oil pressure gauge until ready to
install in a vehicle.
