<VV> 65 Monza 110hp engine question

Thanks, everyone, for helping me understand my error about extended tip
spark plugs for Corvairs. I have now replaced the stock points with an
Ignitor I and a moderately hot coil that came with the car and the
engine does run and sound better. I am currently still using the
Autolite 425s it came with but will replace them with some new copper
spark plugs for 67 Beetles. I am leaning towards the Bosch simply
because I had such good luck over the years with the W8AC Bosch plugs
and because they were a bargain. I am finding some difficulty in
getting various copper Beetle plugs for cheap at local FLAPs with the
notable exception of the Autolite 425s, but will keep looking for
alternatives. If needed I can always order on-line as new plugs are not
urgent for me.

Some people had told me that I could open up the spark plug gap with a
hotter coil and the Ignitor, but I found an engine miss when I did that
at 0.040" gap. I might experiment with a hotter coil (Flamethrower I
have on hand or perhaps something else laying around) and since I have
an ignition scope, I should be able to compare how it works.

For now, I have noticed some difficulty balancing the carbs, especially
since one has a fairly loose carb throttle shaft. It should be noted
that the carbs were supposedly rebuilt with the engine about 7K miles
ago. I always begin to doubt things when I see something like a loose
carb throttle shaft after a rebuild when that is so obviously an error.
I am close to starting to rebuild the carbs and see how it performs once
that is done.

Thanks, again, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Larry
