I've done something similar but on the other end with something called a 
"turnback LED" if I remember its name correctly. I got a set of clear 
parking light lenses and installed these bulbs. With the parking lights 
on its a very bright white, turn on the directional and the white goes 
out and it flashes amber. Might be able to rig something with them in 
the backup lights. They do require the 2 filament socket of course.

I've rigged mine as DRLs.

I can try and find the maker/part no., got them on eBay.
