<VV> Ignition Woes

Seth, I hope I'm doing this correctly.   As I understand it, Crane units can run with the stock (points) coil.  That's what I'm using.
I checked voltage going to the plus side of the coil, it's around 9 volts.  I assume that means the resistor wire is engaged and is stepping the voltage down.
I'd appreciate any feedback in case I'm not on the right track, many thanks!...Bill
