I believe the diode/shutting off issue is only with the "one wire" 
internally regulated alternators. Just put an internally regulated on my 
69 following the wiring in the CORSA tech guide all it works as it 
should, including the alt/gen light.

Only thing I did differently was at the regulator. I tried removing it 
and installing jumpers per the guide but there's a lot of harness there 
and it just king of hung. Took a dead regulator, gutted it, installed 
the needed jumpers internally and all is and looks well.
