<VV> Broken Starter "Nose"

What I failed to say is, it's the welds on the pressure plate starter ring
that crack.
Use a screwdriver or small pry and try to pry the ring at the various welds
to see if there's any play.

Thanks for your responses. I'm going to replace everything inside the bell
housing. The car has over 100,000 miles on it so I guess I got my money's
worth!

Broken starter noses are almost ALWAYS caused by broken starter ring on the
clutch plate.
Remove the clutch pressure plate and re-weld the starter welds.

Is there anything else that can break a starter nose other than a loose
flywheel? My Spyder wouldn't crank more than "Rrr-Rrr" when I took it out
of winter storage. I pulled the started, and the part of the nose had
broken off. See photos. It had no signs like rattling or vibration when I
put it away last fall.
