I always put mirrors on the front fenders, above the wheel. Then you
can keep one eye on the mirror and one eye on the road. British cars
always had mirrors there till we started importing cars from Europe with
door mirrors fitted. I've never liked them - you have to take your eyes
off the road and turn your head to look in the mirror. Another thing I
cannot cope with are flat glass mirrors. Even the big trucks use them
over here. You can't see a damn thing out of them. Good for reversing,
but not for going forward! Commercial vehicle in England only use convex
mirrors - not crazy bug-eye mirrors like you get here, just a gentle
curve that gives you a decent field of vision combined with decent depth
perception. There is a guy on ebay selling suitable convex wing-mirrors
for Chevys (fender mirrors I should say). But if you prefer flat-glass
door mirrors, don't let me stand in your way!
