<VV> Late model fuel system help needed

You can drain most of the tank by disconnecting the 5/16" hose that goes 
to the sending unit and drain it with the car level. Then when ready to 
remove the sender, make the passenger side slightly higher than the 
driver's side and the gasoline remaining in the tank shouldn't slosh out 
too quick. Note a full tank is 14 gallons, so have three empty 5 gallon 
cans ready.

Has this sender been in there since before you bought the car? Has it 
ever worked right during  your ownership?
