Michael/Jim/Bryan:  Yes, and unfortunately the nuts and the plastic cap came loose on the passengers' side, and everything fell off.
I did buy a package of nuts of the correct side and have "jammed" two onto the top of the shock.  I think it's a good idea to add thread lock, next time I get the car out of the garage I'll hopefully put that on.
Interestingly on the drivers' side everything is intact.
