There is a lot more to properly work on the mainframe than people here understand. Critical tolerances include bushing end and side play. Also 2 little tiny cup bearings for speedcup spindle are often not understood. I do not feel up to doing much anymore , but I still own all the required equipment to do it properly. I went to GM I in Warren MI 1967 to learn all this stuff. I worked at United Radio Service doing warranty repairs on GM Delco stuff of all kinds 1966 - 1978. Items were shipped in from dealers all over the East area from Mississippi East. I bought the speedo calibration equipment myself, and made my own Magnetizer / demagnetizer and all the special punch's and tools to repair mainframes. Still have syringes of some of the lubes used. Silicone and Moly base are best for frame work.

Rebuilding the original speedometers, particularly the Corsa speedometer/odometer is becoming problematic for sure -- some of the parts are no longer available.
The Vairtrix electronic replacement does work well, but still depends upon having a working mainframe with the spinning magnet and the drive cable. Since the cable is only spinning the magnet -- no internal gears to drive -- the load on the cable is low but the cable and mainframe bushing still needs to be lubricated.
I guess the ultimate replacement would be GPS enabled.
