<CORSA Chapters> Another Q or two

OK, I'll chime in.
I can understand a dues increase.
Yes, expenses are escalating, membership is dwindling.

But I cannot help but see the similarity with the way the government(s)
work.
They see revenues decreasing, so they raise taxes, add fees, but never seem
to make cuts.
In NY, this results with a mass exodus of people leaving the state, in
search of a less taxing existance.

Please spare me the same old refrain of its only a few dollars, or if a
person can afford this, he can afford that.
Right now, everyone is hurting to some extent. A lot of our membership is on
fixed incomes, or have lost their jobs.
Membership may result in being a luxury. I know too many people who have
quit small things to make ends meet.

Here is what I would suggest.
Seek out some commercial advertising for the Communique.
It is what we need. Get someone else to pay our expenses..........
Go to a 10 issue magazine instead of 12.
You would save in postage, and printing.
Drop the January issue as it goes to press during the Holiday season, and it
may have the least effect on the seaason's scheduling as the next issue
would be out in plenty of time.
Drop the issue that goes to press the same time as the convention. Yes it is
in the heart of the season, but you all have the cconvention to deal with,
and this would give a temporary break.
Make up the difference in editorial contact with other issues.
I do this with the NFCC newsletter, we do 10 issues a year.........works out
OK.

The issue of all chapters being 100% Corsa membership is one issue I
disagree with.
I know it would not work with the NFCC, we hover around 50% membership,
maybe a bit more.
That requirement, would most likely have us drop our affiliation with CORSA,
something I would not like to see.
I myself am a member, and support CORSA, but for many reasons, a good number
of our membership are not members.
We also have certain people who we have as "honorary" members. This includes
former members who receive our newsletter, but do not attend events except
as spectators, and a widow of a former member who may attend our annual
dinner. This makes our total appear to be poorer than it is.
We have members who have never even attended a convention, even when it was
in Buffalo. And some who are members simply to receive the newsletter.
