I think in your position (diff reassembled), I'd content myself with putting
down a nice, clean bead of silicone sealant where the outer face of the
snout flange meets the stop-flange (making up terms, here) on the diff case.
Maybe even a hardening-type sealant (Form-a-Gasket #1) - this joint is
casting-to-casting, or forging-to-casting. Any lube that leaks through that
joint will NOT be under pressure, and I think a solid bead there should
suffice very well to stop any such leakage, if it occurs. I agree with the
view that you should NOT disassemble in order to put sealant farther in. As
you note, shop literature doesn't say to put anything in there.

If you have already installed the innards, I'd leave it alone.  More
likely to do damage.  The tolerances are SOO tight and the contact areas
so large that I'd seriously doubt you would get a 70-90W gear oil leak.
